The Licensed Clinical Psychologist will work in the Assessment and Counseling Clinic at the Belin-Blank Center. This clinic serves high ability students who present with a range of needs related to their talents, as well as challenges related to learning and mental health issues. The Licensed Clinical Psychologist will complete psychoeducational evaluations, provide counseling and consultation services, supervise graduate-level practicum students, present at regional and national conferences, and assist with preparation of research and grant applications, as appropriate. The clinician’s work hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend commitments associated with special events at the Center. The Belin-Blank Center is dedicated to nurturing high ability children through research, teaching, and service, with an overall goal of helping students achieve their full academic potential and training teachers to play a key role in their development.

Provision of Clinical Services and Programs

-Complete psychoeducational evaluations of high ability students who present with a range of needs related to their talents as well as challenges related to learning difficulties, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and other mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, depression). These evaluations involve selection, administration, and interpretation of tests related to intellectual abilities, academic achievement, neuropsychological functioning, psychosocial adjustment, and career-related issues.
-Provide counseling for high ability students and parents.


-May provide consultation with school personnel to promote the attainment of behavioral, psychosocial, and educational goals.
-May participate in the center’s research activities including the development and administration of trainings (e.g., Webinars, workshops, etc).
-May assist with the development of continuing professional educational opportunities for faculty and school personnel.

Human Resources Management

Supervise graduate-level practicum students in assessment, counseling and research.

Financial Management
-Maintain a clinic caseload that is financially aligned with the clinic’s services (approximately 6 full diagnostic assessments per month and build a caseload to 8-10 therapy clients per week). 

-Assist in preparation of grant applications for clinic funding.

Administrative Responsibilities

May assist in the development and preparation of research proposals and grant applications.

Education or Equivalency Required 
  • A doctoral degree in Psychology is required.
Required Qualifications 
  • Licensed Psychologist in the state of Iowa
  • Health Service Provider (HSP) in the state of Iowa (or eligible to apply for HSP).
  • Experience administering, interpreting, and reporting results of the range of tests related to intellectual abilities, academic achievement, neuropsychological functioning, psychosocial adjustment, and/or career-related issues is required. Working proficiency level. Typical experience is 1-5 years. 
  • Experience in providing therapy services to children and/or families. Working proficiency level. Typical experience is 1- 5 years.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Completion of an APA-approved internship is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting diagnostic evaluations for learning disorders, attention disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and mood/anxiety disorders. 
  • Strong clinical assessment writing skills. Clinical writing samples may be requested.
  • Specific training in using the Autism Diagnostic Observation System, 2nd Edition (ADOS-2) and the Autism Diagnostic Interview—Revised (ADI-R) in evaluating and diagnosing autism spectrum disorder is preferred, but applicants without this training will also be considered.
  • Prior familiarity or experience with high ability and/or twice-exceptional students is desired, but applicants without this experience will also be considered.
