Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - UI Health Care Sleep Clinic 80-100%
The Heartland Drive Sleep Clinic is seeking a 80-100% Licensed Practical Nurse. An LPN functions within the scope of the practical nursing license to assist physician staff with patient care. This role performs technical assessment, administers medications and treatments, and assists with clinic program in an ambulatory setting.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs physical assessment, which may include vital signs, weight, height, and current history and makes observations relevant to patient conditions. Documents or reviews all pertinent data, including allergies, current medications, and health history.
Performs various screening tests in preparation for patient’s physical examination.
Administers medications, gives injections, monitors intravenous fluids and performs treatments which are within the practical nurse scope of practice. Observes and documents patient reactions to medications and treatments, and initiates emergency treatment as indicated.
Assesses visual acuity, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels.
Assists in examinations of patients, diagnostic procedures, and minor surgeries.
Provides patient education regarding diagnosis, medication, and treatment under direct or indirect supervision of the physician, or as directed by clinic protocol.
Applies dressings, assesses and documents wound condition, removes sutures, assures proper fit of orthopedic equipment, and provides treatments according to standardized protocols. Responsible for teaching patients follow-up care.
Initiates basic cardiac life support and assists in emergency situations as needed.
Assures timely reporting of lab work to physician staff and appropriate transfer of medical records as directed by physician or as requested by patients.
Maintains appropriate inventory of medical equipment and patient education materials in patient examination areas.
Maintains responsibility for screening and directing communication between clinic staff, consulting staff, continuing care providers, students, university faculty and staff, and the public.
Responsible for evaluating and documenting function of emergency equipment and for maintaining stock medication supplies.
May exercise functional supervision over students or health aids.

Location: Coralville, IA The Heartland Drive Sleep Clinic is seeking a 80-100% Medical Assistant II. Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse, performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting. Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families and staff.
- Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to: patient history, medication records, allergies and immunizations.
- Manages internal and external medical records to ensure that accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
- Administers routine oral, rectal or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment. (These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program.)
- Performs routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work, does electrocardiograms and x-ray work as needed.
- Identifies vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
- Performs related clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling appointments and providing information other departments.
- Assists in obtaining insurance prior authorizations.

Required Qualifications:
Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Iowa Board of Nursing, or eligible for temporary work permit. Responsible to take the required continuing education hours to maintain a valid LPN certification.
Basic Cardiac Life Support provider.
Special Qualification/License:
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Demonstrated excellent written/verbal communication.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous work experience utilizing customer service skills
- Minimum of one year of Licensed Practical Nurse experience preferred
- Experience with durable medical equipment
