The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a 50% Licensed Practical Nurse to work for the Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery Clinic.

Duties to include:

  • Provides nursing care under the supervision of a registered professional nurse.

  • Assist with pre-operative education for otolaryngology surgical patient populations from pediatrics to adult.

  • Participates in the development of nursing care plans and in the implementation of therapeutic program for patients.

  • Assist in clinic with MA & MD staff weekly clinics

  • Assist with minor procedures in clinic, minor room and surgicenter procedures.

  • In less complex situations, may assume responsibility for directing and supervising assigned nursing personnel. In more complex situations, performs as an assistant to the registered professional nurse.

  • Assist with telephone triage 1-2 times weekly. 

  • Performs patient care related to vital signs, lab draws, setting up and assisting with minor procedures, in-clinic treatments, point of care testing and other duties as assigned.

  • Provides psychological support to the patient and family based on assessed needs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Percent of Time: 50%

Schedule: In 2 week pay period (3) 8 hour days alternating with (2) 8 hour days. 8:00-16:30 subject to change due to clinic schedule. 

Location: UIHC Main Campus

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Iowa Board of Nursing, or eligible for temporary work permit. Responsible to take the required continuing education hours to maintain a valid LPN certification.

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification 

Desired Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of otolaryngology experience

  • Medical Terminology

  • Public Contact/Customer Service
