Management Services Manager - Stead Family Children's Hospital - Environmental Services
The University of Iowa Health Care’s department of Environmental Services is seeking a Management Services Manager. This position oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Services team of approximately 100 front line staff and 6 front line leaders at Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The position reports to Director of Environmental Services.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and oversees facility functions and activities including cleaning, environmental quality, set up for special functions and event preparation.
- Orients and trains new and/or transferring employee(s) to the department cleaning methods and department/hospital policies and procedures.
- Evaluates employee performance, coaches, facilitates work unit or team activities and conducts or recommends disciplinary actions, promotions, and terminations.
- Schedules, directs, and inspects daily work activities of employees.
- Assists in planning and revision of departmental policies and procedures to include evaluation and recommendation of supplies and equipment.
- Develops and creates new ways to address customer service issues both with staff and departmentally.
- Ensures staff compliance with State of Iowa, Iowa Department of Public Health, State Board of Regents, OSHA and regulatory requirements for Hepatitis B (HBV) and Standard Precautions for the education, training and work practices.
- Conducts department competency/performance review according to departmental/University guidelines.
- Holds employee meetings on a regular basis to include formal training.
- Interview applicants and recommends candidates for appointment.
- Performs, recommends, and documents counseling and progressive discipline of employees.
- Prepares and maintains records and reports.
- Ability to work alongside employees with the collective goal of an excellent environmental outcome.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Responds to customer complaints and requests from external departments related to the delivery and improvement of a broad scope of services.
- Communicates with senior leadership
This position is performed fully on campus.

We as a department are responsible for the upkeep and cleaning of over 2.8 million square feet of the hospital. The department provides support through 24/7 operations.

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
· Considerable (3-5 years) management experience
· Considerable (3-5 years) of custodial experience
· Proficiency in computer software applications
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Demonstrated experience with time management (i.e. setting priorities and managing multiple demands effectively)
· Considerable (5+ years) experience in customer service driven environment
· Minimum (2+ years) management experience working in a health care setting
· Ability to move up to 50 pounds
Desirable Qualifications:
· Prior experience working in a large (500 + bed) academic medical facility
· Knowledge of the full spectrum of facilities management activities; ability to maintain, care for and develop commercial and physical facilities
· Ability to plan, mobilize and distribute resources to fulfill business objective and plans, may require ability to plan and administer a budget
· Ability to form and manage effective teams
· Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional(CHESP) credential
· Certification of Mastery of Infection Prevention (CMIP)
