The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, The Stead Family Children's Hospital is seeking a Manager of Injury Prevention and Community Outreach.  This position is located in Iowa City, IA. 

The manager of the Injury Prevention Community Outreach (IPCO) program at Stead Family Children’s Hospital leads our collective effort to reduce unintentional injuries in children throughout the state of Iowa and beyond. She/he/they are responsible for designing, planning, promoting, operating, and evaluating the Stead Family Children’s Hospital’s Injury Prevention and Community Outreach program, in collaboration with Stead Family Children’s Hospital leadership and faculty, staff.

 

Except for injury prevention community outreach activities and/or events for which travel is required, this position leads the IPCO program primarily on-site at UI Health Care Medical Center – University campus.

Position Responsibilities:

·       Manage and administer the operational and/or financial activities for the Injury Prevention and Community Outreach program. Monitor status of projects. Analyze program data, develop reports, and oversee activities.

·       Determine costs and manage budget development. Monitor accounts and expenditures (including grant budgets).  Reconcile statements.  Responsible for providing fiscal reports to granting agencies and/or hospital leadership.

·       Generate income through the Stead Family Children’s Hospital Safety Store. Seek and achieve grant funding to expand and sustain various injury prevention programs. Identify potential vendors and key stakeholders.  Gather financial quotes, select bids, and choose vendors.

·       Implement and manage new programs, services, and program components.

·       Conduct and report periodic evaluation of Injury Prevention/Community Outreach program operation in meeting stated objectives (using established pediatric injury prevention metrics).

·       Prioritize, lead and recommend strategic plan direction for Stead Family Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention and Community Outreach Program, including but not limited to Safety Store initiatives, Grinnell Mutual ATV Safety program, bike safety, safe sleep, firearm, child passenger safety, and other injury prevention programs and education for internal audience.

·       Serve as Program Coordinator, Injury Free Coalition for Kids, a national pediatric injury prevention organization (42 children’s hospital sites).

·       Leads the development and implementation of communication strategies, plans and solutions including the development and implementation of program expansion

·       Define objectives for events, oversees management of event, implement follow-ups, and demonstrates and reports measurable results.

·       Prepare and maintain appropriate periodic and special program operations reports and surveys.

·       Represent the University on behalf of the Injury Prevention and Community Outreach program, Patient and Family Centered Services, Children’s and Women’s Services, and the Stead Family Children’s Hospital throughout the community, state and nation by presenting injury prevention programs and/or serving on internal and external committees

·       Manage staff who oversee the coordination of complex events and presentations (e.g., health fairs, safety fairs, local school presentations, national and state conferences, legislative advocacy, etc).  Plan and arrange for appropriate facilities and services in conjunction with program events.

·       Develop educational programs to reduce injuries in children. Lead task force teams, committees, etc., that develop and/or contribute to injury prevention educational and promotional materials, articles and reports for publication and distribution.

·       Develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, community members, community leaders and other health advocacy professionals (e.g., chamber of commerce, PTOs, school district groups, Kiwanis, public libraries, crisis centers, referring providers and agencies, Children’s Hospital Association, injury prevention collaborative, SafeKids, etc.). 

·       Develop communication strategies to promote programs and services. Present to professional groups. Publish results in journals. Develop educational programs.

·       Manage and assure applicable compliance standards. Recommend changes in policies and procedures.

·       Analyze data for quality improvement and pediatric injury prevention initiatives.

·       Evaluate program effectiveness and impact with the use of surveys, questionnaires, etc.  Consider, explore and recommend changes to improve effectiveness and impact, if needed.

·       Collect, maintain and analyze data on program participants and events to determine necessary improvements in planning, marketing, coordination and implementation of events, projects and publications.

·       Provide functional and administrative supervision of staff, offering direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling, to assure outcomes are achieved.

·       Hire, develop and manage the performance of support staff; assure staff are compliant with UI policies and procedures.

·       Form, develop and lead multidisciplinary and community-based teams to consistently achieve and surpass program goals.

·       Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

       ·       Minimum of three years related administrative and program experience.

       ·       Minimum three years’ experience with/demonstrated excellence public speaking.

       ·       Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.    

       ·       Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

       ·       Maintains current, valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards. 

Education Requirements:

·  Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Health or a similar discipline, or a Bachelor’s degree and an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

       ·       Minimum three years of knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.

       ·       Certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician required within 6 months of employment.

       ·       Demonstrated leadership experience with community outreach/partnerships

       ·       Demonstrated experience with retail operation

       ·       Demonstrated proficiency/experience with grant writing

       ·       Demonstrated experience with event planning
