Schedule: 40 hours per week, typically between the hours of 7:00 am-7:30 pm with rotating weekends, and rotating weekend and holiday on-call responsibility.

Position Summary:  Under general supervision, provides waived and moderately complex clinical lab testing and analysis on biological specimens to provide information used it he diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease. Will use a variety of procedures that may involve numerous detailed tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. This position will work at North Dodge Clinic and Core Laboratory locations, though typically will not be required to commute between locations on any given day.

 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Performs Quantitative and qualitative analysis for both waived and moderately complex testing on laboratory clinical and research biological specimens such as blood, tissue and body fluids.

  • Provides information to health care provider regarding test methodology and interpretation. Evaluates test results.

  • Investigates quality assurance issues involving patient samples. Carries out recommended corrective action for quality assurance.

  • Calibrates, conducts routine maintenance and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation.

  • Assists in reagent comparisons, evaluates results and recommends changes to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

  • Participates in evaluation of equipment and recommends products for acquisition.

  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies as needed.

  • Complies with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirement of the laboratory.

  • Performs, records and reviews daily quality control associated with assigned testing.

  • Participates in the quality Assurance program within the clinic. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations for resolution of identified problems/errors.

  • Performs phlebotomy.
  • Assists with writing and revising laboratory procedures according to NCCLS guidelines.

  • Performs additional tasks, special functions and/or special projects as assigned.

Education Required

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology program from an accredited institution.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Six (6) months – One (1) year clinical laboratory experience, which may include program training experience is required.

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or a categorical/specialist certification in the appropriate discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from Health Education and Welfare (HEW) is required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

 

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous phlebotomy experience.
