Medication History Senior Pharmacy Technician, Certified - Acute Care 100% PM
The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care is seeking a 100% PM, Medication History - Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our Acute Care Team. The Medication History Senior Technician is primarily responsible for completing medication histories on inpatients at Main Campus. Completion of medication histories requires direct patient conversation and accurate documentation in the medical record. This includes collaboration with the patient care team, interviewing patients and/or caretakers and contacting outside healthcare entities (e.g., hospitals, provider offices, pharmacies, etc.) to obtain patient information. The medication history senior technician performs these duties under the general supervision of the clinical pharmacist and pharmacy supervisor. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday on second shift at 100% appointment, hours will be 8-hours shifts, between the hours of 1:30 pm-10:30 pm.
Duties to include:
Collect pertinent information and details to complete an admission medication history for reconciliation by the pharmacist.
Coordinate daily technical functions for assigned work areas.
Provide supervision to Pharmacy Students as requested.
- Reassign work areas and duties for Pharmacy Students based on workload.
- Provide feedback to supervisor regarding performance of Students.
- Act as a positive role model. Communicate with clear, positive verbal and written messages to individuals within the department as well as with patients, the public, and other departments. Foster teamwork by encouraging and assisting others.
- Participates in orientation of pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and senior pharmacy students on rotation in the department
- Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at the time of hire.
- National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Must meet ongoing education requirements and maintain certification.
- High school diploma or the equivalent experience
- Experience
- Any combination of four years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences OR
- Four years of experience as a pharmacy technician
- Experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting
- Experience working in detail-oriented and team environment that requires high degree of accuracy
- Experience working in healthcare with one-on-one patient interaction & experience handling challenging interactions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Skilled in accurate, concise, and thorough chart documentation
- Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs
