The Department of Neurology at the University of Iowa is seeking a Clinical/Healthcare Research Associate (Research Nurse) to join the Neurology Office of Clinical Trials (NOCT) and an outstanding group of Healthcare Research Nurses.  This position requires strong clinical skills and specialized licensing in order to screen patients for study eligibility and consent for clinical trials. The Clinical/Healthcare Research Associate will educate patients on scope of study, potential risks and benefits, possible alternatives, and study requirements, as well as relay information to the principal investigator, verify patient eligibility, administer study medication, and identify adverse reactions. 

Duties Include:    

  • Assist in in the design, development, execution, administration and maintenance of protocols and clinical studies and provide input into descriptions of complex research procedures.
  • Dispense/administer study medication and provide patient education. 
  • Assist patients with problems related to protocol. Oversee Case Report Form development and completion. 
  • Review query reports. Resolve all monitoring visit issues. Perform and monitor randomizations. 
  • Develop complex study materials.
  • Serve as liaison to local health care practitioners, agencies, and sponsors. 
  • Screen, recruit, enroll, and obtain informed consent for clinical research activities and perform skilled work in a specialized area of research. 
  • Oversee the recruitment of subjects and scheduling of trial-related procedures. 
  • Prepare and develop complex study recruitment materials.
  • Participate in the design, development, and testing of clinical research trial data systems. 
  • Validate data and make recommendations for resolution. 
  • Revise and implement change in data collection. 
  • Manage and organize regulatory documentation. 
  • Prepare regulatory submissions.
  • Perform on-site audits of research and clinical data.
  • Monitor compliance of regulatory guidelines and proper maintenance of documents.
  • Prepare and present Institutional Review Boards or other submissions and required regulatory documents. 
  • May recommend corrective action for reportable events. 
  • May provide functional supervision. May mentor new staff under direction. 
  • Develop and administer budget for studies

     

 
Pay Grade: 5A - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay

Percent of Time: 100%   

Please note: This is a specified term position that will last 12 months. An extension may be reviewed after the initial 12 months but is not guaranteed.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
  • Minimum of 1-year related experience.
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.


Desired Qualifications 

  • Minimum of three years’ nursing experience.
  • Experience in neurology or with neurological disorders.
  • Experience with drawing and processing lab samples.
  • Experience with EPIC.
  • Experience with Hawk-IRB and other study databases.
  • Willingness to undergo protocol specific training, including assessments.
  • Willingness to travel for study related activities, take call for acute studies, and have flexibility with hours as needed.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.
