The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Assistant to work with their Clinical Trials team.  Responsibilities include assisting the clinical research nurse coordinators with the recruitment and retention of subjects, IRB documentation preparation and processing, data entry, processing and shipping of lab samples for clinical trials, and assisting with various research studies activities.  The selected individual will also perform clinical/health care research activities in a skilled/specialized area, screening patients for study eligibility and consent for clinical trials. Will educate patients on scope of study, potential risks and benefits, possible alternatives, and study requirements. Will relay information to principle investigator and clinical research nurse coordinator, and ultimately verify patient eligibility.  Will also work on a Multiple Sclerosis registry, including data collection for the registry.  This is a specified term appointment.

 
Research:

Basic translational, clinical research, as above

Oversight of clinical patient registry

Assistance with data analysis and figure preparation

 
Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations:

Arrange and plan daily activities requiring clinical team coordination in order to enroll patients.

Under direction of Principal Investigator, maintain validity and integrity of research data.

 
Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data:

Collect and track data, perform data entry for reports and maintain records of methods used.

As skills develop, analyze data.

 
Administrative Duties:

Assist with submissions and revisions of grants and laboratory protocols.

Monitor compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.

Order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.

Maintain and update lab protocols, inventory.

Monitor accounts, expenditures, and reconciliation of accounts.

As laboratory expands, may assist in providing direction and training to students and newer employees

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have excellent organizational skills and must be reliable and efficient with time management.

Evidence of a dedication to completing tasks and willingness to work at agreed upon times is critical.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (written and spoken) effectively with vendors, collaborators, patients and their families.

Strong basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Access PowerPoint, Word).

 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with EPIC.

Prior experience coordinating clinical trials for neurological disorders.

1-2 years of prior clinical translational science experience.
