The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025.  This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services.  The facility has been designed to support a superior patient and staff experience; excellence across our patient care, teaching and research missions; convenient access to services; and engaging community partnerships.  UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming, highly-skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of the opening team for this superb new campus, and to help further our mission of: Changing Medicine. The department of Orthopedics is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Trauma Team.  The Advance Practice Provider (APP) will work collaboratively with other APPs, residents, and faculty surgeons within the department. The APP will be expected to provide outstanding care to Trauma team patients, working in an outpatient clinic setting. Patients span the life spectrum so the APP will see infants through geriatric patients. This role requires someone who is organized, motivated, and very efficient. No weekends and no call with this position. This is primarily a clinic position. Most APPs have eight to nine half day clinics per week with one to two half days for administrative work. This is a five day per week position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent care to patients who have broken bones and/or wounds. This includes review of Xray, possible splinting or casting, and fracture decision making.
  • Perform/order medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement. Consult/collaborate with other care team members. Use judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues. Influence others to adopt best practices.
  • Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for treatment record and billing purposes. Improve quality of care by performing chart reviews and participating on performance improvement committees.
  • Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents. Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff.
  • Establish and maintain procedures and systems to assure staff compliance with policies and standards of care. Serve on committees to enhance patient care and operations. Assure team provides effective collaboration/communications. May provide feedback and coaching to other team members to assure quality of specialized care.
  • Assist with identification and implementation of process improvement projects and service line advancements in order to improve patient outcomes and decrease complications.
  • Assist with implementation of methods to capture appropriate billing/coding documentation in the EMR.

No weekends or call is expected for this role.

Education Requirements:

  • A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree or DNP in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.

Experience Requirements:

  • 3 years of patient care experience gained through education, job experience, or rotations is required. 
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of orthopedic patient care is required.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Timely completion of documentation 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in medical-surgical inpatient, surgical inpatient, orthopedic outpatient, or orthopedic surgical setting is highly desired.
