PA/ARNP Hospitalist - General Internal Medicine (MCD)
BASIC FUNCTION
The University of Iowa Health Care, department of Internal Medicine is seeking a PA/ARNP to provide medical care and management for patients, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided for the Internal Medicine patients located at the Medical Campus Downtown (MCD). Function independently to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for the Internal Medicine inpatient and observation populations. Facilitate the transition of care from the ED to inpatient services. Focus on the caring for hospitalized patients to manage care and length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care. The position requires staffing nights and weekends. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Provision of Medical Care; Collaboration with Care Team:
Perform /order medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medication.
Oversee admissions and new consultations.
Consult/collaborate with other care team members.
Use judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues.
Influence others to adopt best practices.
Staff the Internal Medicine service lines including nights and weekends.
Compliance with Internal Policies and External Regulations for Safe and Effective Care Delivery and Health Profession and Education:
Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for treatment record and billing purposes.
Education/Health/Promotion/Research:
Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents.
Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff.
Administration/Human Resources Management:
Establish and maintain procedures and systems to assure compliance with policies and standards of care. Initiate corrective action as needed.
Assure team provides effective collaboration/communications.
May provide feedback and coaching to other team members to assure quality of care.
Education/License Requirements:
Physician Assistant (PA): Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP): A Master’s degree is required. A Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred. If a Master’s degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required.
ARNP - Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.
ARNP - Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.
Required Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience providing overall medical care and providing medical management for adult patients in a General Internal Medicine inpatient setting is highly desirable.
Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in area of Internal Medicine clinical practice or previous experience in specified hospital specialty area or demonstrated knowledge of area of clinical practice is required.
Experience exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided is highly desirable.
Experience managing length of stay, improve resource utilization and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care is highly desirable.
Experience with the evaluation and treatment of General Internal Medicine patients and the supervision of General Internal Medicine procedures is highly desirable.
