Position Summary
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support our MRI Division in providing safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Working under direct supervision, this position assists imaging technologists with MRI procedures by preparing patients for exams, transporting patients to and from imaging areas, and ensuring exam rooms are cleaned, stocked, and ready for the next patient. The Patient Care Technician plays an essential role in supporting the performance of a wide variety of MRI imaging procedures while promoting a positive patient experience.
Position Responsibilities
Independently takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, oxygen level, and other various assessments as instructed.
Provides for patient comfort measures through social interactions.
Responsible for facilitating smooth flow of patient through imaging areas by assisting imaging technologist in the performance of MRI procedures.
Transports patients, equipment (including Radiology imaging equipment), specimens and supplies.
Assembles equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures, including sterile tray set up.
Shares responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies and for neatness and cleanliness of assigned area.
Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as preprocedural preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, etc.
Reports pertinent patient information and incidents to imaging technologist and care team, including obtaining medical assistance for changes in the patient condition.
Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort.
Demonstrates accountability for patient satisfaction.
Cleans areas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipment.
Stocks and supply assigned areas.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Adheres to departmental established policies and procedures including but not limiting to double identification and hand hygiene.
Collaborates with imaging technologists and other staff across Radiology to ensure optimal patient experience and efficient workflow.
Performs special duties as assigned.
