The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Advanced Registered Nurse Pracitioner to perform direct patient care including diagnostic and therapeutic services with physician supervision within the Pediatric Allergy/Immunology clinic.  Within the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) and Physician relationship,  the ARNP will exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided. Assist in educating healthcare students, residents, and fellows as they rotate through the clinic. Assist in research endeavors, as appropriate.

 

The department intends to hire for one position from either Pediatric ARNP, requisition 20002268 or Pediatric PA, requisition 20002266, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please apply to the specific position for which you wish to be considered.

 

Duties to include:

 
  • Perform overall medical care and medical management exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided primarily in an outpatient setting under a collaborative practice agreement.
  • Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate healthcare for a defined pediatric patient population.
  • Collaborate/consult in the optimization of care delivery through coordination and transitions of care as a part of a team.
  • Determine nursing care requirements and develop programs for a specific pediatric patient population, with regard to patient condition and age, and follow universal precautions.
  • Promote health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena.
  • Perform medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribe, dispense or deliver medications within their scope of practice as described in state and federal laws, including but not limited to the following:
  • History specific for allergy and immunology
  • Allergy testing (skin, in vitro, patch)
  • Environmental control instructions
  • Immunomodulator therapy (e.g. anti-IgE, IVIG)
  • Allergen immunotherapy (environmental allergens, venom)
  • Food and drug challenges
  • Drug desensitization
  • Evaluation of immune competence
  • Education (disease, medications, monitoring)
  • Management of chronic or recurrent conditions where allergy is not always identified: rhinosinusitis, conjunctivitis, asthma, cough, eczema, mast cell and eosinophilic disorders, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis
  • Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
  • Accurately and appropriately complete documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR) and other records for compliance, billing and other regulatory standards.
  • Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
  • Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies.
  • Serve in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Provide health education to patients and families; participate in the development, utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
  • Provide education and serve as a resource for nursing staff in area of clinical expertise.
  • Provide education to external agencies, community, and other health professionals.
  • Follow prescribed practices in communicating and elevating any quality and patient safety concerns.
  • Enhance and support the clinical educational experience of trainees including medical students, residents and other health professional learners.
  • May generate research questions regarding healthcare for patient populations. Incorporate research findings into practice.
  • Participate in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
  • Responsible for administrative activities and special projects, as assigned.
  • Contribute toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals.
  • Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of specialization.
  • Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and nursing knowledge.
  • Participate in professional nursing activities in the department, hospital, community, and professional organizations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • May perform other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.
  • Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in Iowa is required by the date of hire.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in pediatrics is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment or promoting a diverse environment is required
