Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

 

1. Possession of certification from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as a Law Enforcement Officer, or

 

2. Possession of law enforcement certification in another state and successful completion of all application and examination requirements as outlined in Iowa Administrative Code 501-3.8(80B).

 

 

License Certification Requirement:

 

Iowa Law Enforcement Officer Certification; or

 

Possession of law enforcement certification in another state and successful completion of all application and examination requirements as outlined in Iowa Administrative Code 501-3.8(80B); and

 

Valid Driver’s license is required and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety driving Standards.

 

 

Desirable Qualifications

 

  • Ability to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor with the public that fosters good relations.
  • Awareness of the role that the Department of Public Safety plays in campus safety and how the department supports the accomplishment of the University of Iowa’s mission and goals.
  • Ability to observe situations analytically, impartially, and objectively.
  • Previous experience with high stress / dynamic work situations.
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks.
  • Intermediate to proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of communication skills, oral and written, in order to interact effectively with people from various and diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
