Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa is seeking a Production Coordinator to support the successful planning and execution of performances, artist residencies, and engagement activities. This role serves as a key connector between Production and Programming & Engagement teams, helping ensure clear communication, efficient coordination of resources, and a seamless experience for artists, students, staff, and audiences.

The Production Coordinator plays a central role in advancing events, managing complex schedules, and supporting on-site operations for performances, residencies, and special projects—including multi-day festivals and events across multiple venues. Responsibilities include maintaining detailed artist advance documentation, coordinating logistics such as travel, hospitality, and production needs, and assisting with run-of-show execution for select events.

This is a highly collaborative, detail-oriented role ideal for someone with experience in live event or performing arts environments who thrives in a fast-paced setting and enjoys balancing long-range planning with real-time problem-solving. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with visiting artists and campus partners while contributing to a dynamic presenting organization that produces 80+ events each year across a wide range of disciplines.

This is a 3-year, specified term position. 

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to: 

  • Develop and maintain the artist advance sheet for residencies & special events, 

  • Support the planning and execution of visiting artist engagements and residency activities, coordinating to resolve conflicts between residency and performance/production schedules & entering engagement information into the various software platforms that give the entire Hancher team visibility into an artist's commitments in Iowa City, 

  • Supervise run of show for select Club Hancher shows, Hancher programming at Voxman Music Building, Performing Arts at Iowa events, and special events presented by Hancher, 

  • Support special events and festivals, 

  • And more!

About the Department: Hancher is a university arts presenter with over 50 years of history, housed in a facility opened in 2016. Presenting 80+ events annually across dance, music, theater, comedy & multidisciplinary projects, Hancher brings artists to the University of Iowa campus and the wider Eastern Iowa community. Hancher reports to the Office of Performing Arts and Engagement within the Office of the Provost, which oversees Hancher, stewards collaboration across the UI performing arts campus, and assists with overall development of the UI's creative campus.

Required Qualifications:

Education (or equivalency) Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, music, theater, dance, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience (experience equivalency equals an AA degree and 2 years additional experience or 4 additional years of experience)

Experience Required 

  • Some (6 months to a year) experience in arts programming, residency coordination, community engagement, or a related role

Competencies Required

  • Experience supporting live performance events, including coordination of logistics and schedules

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining detailed documentation and coordinating across multiple stakeholders

  • Working knowledge of stage management or live event operations, including the ability to support or lead on-site event execution

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required by event schedules
     

Desired Qualifications:

  • Over one year experience in arts programming, residency coordination, community engagement, or related role.

  • Experience working in a presenting organization, higher education environment, or with artist residencies, festivals, or multi-day/multi-venue events

  • Experience using scheduling, event management, or project management tools, and a demonstrated ability to proactively plan, problem-solve, and manage multiple priorities

Compensation: Anticipated salary will be $45,000 - $50,000 with Competitive Benefits
