Education Requirement

  • Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering, environmental science, or science related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 

Required Qualifications

  • At least one year of work experience in an environmental discipline that encompasses watersheds, rivers, floods, etc. 
  • At least one year of experience writing web content, press releases, and/or other environmentally related materials for governmental, private, and public consumption. 
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing tools and resources to track research or program activities.  
  • Strong communications skills; effective oral and written communication of scientific concepts (both technical and non-technical) to a wide variety of audiences. 
  • A valid driver’s license is required and the ability to meet and maintain continued compliance with the standards of the University Driving Policy.  (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19). 
  • Demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive culture in the workforce and academic environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience developing and/or delivering environmental programs or public outreach events to K-12, agency staff, landowners, or other stakeholders. 
  • Experience working in collaboration with state and/or federal agencies and policymakers to address issues related to water quality and environmental issues related to water. 
  • Working experience or coursework in GIS. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state agriculture, soil, and water resource policies and standards.
