Education Requirement

  • Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering, environmental science, environmental communication, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience implementing professional communications strategies that include web, social, and print media for a wide variety of audiences. 
  • Demonstrated experience with program coordination. 
  • Strong communications skills; effective oral and written communication of scientific concepts (both technical and non-technical) to a wide variety of audiences 
  • A valid driver’s license is required and the ability to meet and maintain continued compliance with the standards of the University Driving Policy (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19). 

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in science discipline, geography, environmental engineering, education, communications, or related field. 
  • At least one year of work experience in an environmental discipline that encompasses watersheds, rivers, floods, etc. 
  • At least one year of experience delivering environmental programs or public outreach events.  
  • Demonstrated experience developing and writing web content, press releases, and/or other environmentally related materials for governmental, private, and public consumption. 
  • Experience working in collaboration with state and/or federal agencies and policymakers to address water related issues. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state agriculture, soil, and water resource policies and standards.
