Program Coordinator - Patient Access Center
The Program Coordinator provides operational management support to the UI Patient Access Center (UI PAC) and health insurance plan administration support to the University Benefits Office. 70% of this role will be to support the Patient Access Center in managing the Facilitated Access Program and data analysis regarding Facilitated Access. Additionally, the role will support data analysis for the capacity management team and meetings with FRIC/UI Health Care. 30% of the role is to deliver administrative assistance and expertise to the interpretation of health insurance benefits and accurate adjudication of UI benefit plans. This position works with employees, retirees, and students regarding health care, including but not limited to, facilitated access, specialty referrals, billing, university benefit plan eligibility, and claim issues.
Collect and analyze data on health plans services rendered.
Assist in evaluation of health plan reports for process improvements and outreach opportunities.
Meet with Director of Benefits as needed to discuss potential trends with medical and/or dental plan claim issues, status of claim resolutions, and opportunities to improve communications with our plan members.
Participate in University of Benefits staff meetings and as needed, vendor calls.
Assist University Benefits Office in planning and communicating open enrollment information and attending and participating in New Employee Orientation and Open Enrollment meetings.
Complete insurance benefit projects, as needed for University Benefits Office.
Primary owner of facilitated access projects, strategies and goals.
Identify health plan issues and suggest corrective action for resolution.
Contributor to the development of pilot programs with UI family by providing case examples or other experiences.
Obtain, prepare, assemble marketing materials for open enrollment, health fairs, employee orientation, etc.
Update UI Health Plan Office web site, working in conjunction with Joint Office of Marketing and Communications.
Assist with presentations.
Maintain and optimize Facilitated Access reporting for the departments the UI PAC serves.
Counsel new hires, newly enrolled, and current plan members - faculty, staff, students, and retirees. Assistance occurs over the phone, by email, and in-person. Some questions/inquiries are basic; however, some are more complex and may require research or assistance from the University Benefits Office.
Partner with University Benefits staff to provide general health insurance information during UI Health Fair.
Primary correspondent for e-mail inquiries; triages the needs to a more appropriate resource when needed.
Establish departmental training plan for new employees and facilitate training and educational support for existing staff through communication of UI offerings that apply to select staff positions.
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, patients, payors, and the public to promote utilization of UI benefit plans.
Resource for interpretation of plan benefits and accurate adjudication of UI benefit plans.
Enforce established medical policies and pre-approval procedures by educating UI Benefits staff of changes in BC/BS policies and making recommendations to clarify contracts for improved application to policies and procedures.
Adhere to HIPAA procedures when handling confidential information.
Evaluate program data on a monthly basis to ensure it is meeting strategic goals (i.e.: access, satisfaction).
Support capacity management in data analysis.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
1-3 years of health insurance benefit administration and healthcare billing practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills: ability to effectively transmit, receive and interpret ideas, information, and need through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at an extensive level.
Demonstrates working knowledge and proficiency using all commonly used office support software (e.g. Outlook, Excel, etc.). Ability to prepare reports and analyze data in Excel and other database applications.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate positive outcomes and work effectively in ambiguous and complex situations with minimal supervision.
Highly effective interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationships in the work/academic environment.
Demonstrated customer - focused and team-focused actions to exceed needs and expectations.
Strong analytical skills to identify opportunities for operational improvement and implementing effective changes
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in healthcare administration or operations.
Previous experience working with electronic medical record systems.
Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.
