Research Assistant-Biochemistry
Required Qualifications
- Academic knowledge of a scientific discipline plus the ability to translate, adapt, and apply the knowledge that is generally associated with a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, such that one can perform beginning level research in a natural or health science field or discipline.
- Preparation of buffer solutions and common molecular biological reagents in the laboratory
- Experience in the gel electrophoresis of DNA and protein
- Experience in RNA, DNA and/or protein purification
- A working knowledge of genetics, including concepts of dominant/ recessive, chromosomes, markers
- Experience using microscopes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in data presentation is required, both orally using PowerPoint and through written presentations that include the preparation of figures needed for data analysis and the preparation and design of figures for publication
- Experience with Word and Excel.
- Having an understanding of DNA databases, restriction maps and PCR primers
- Familiarity with current technology in molecular biology and biochemistry
- Experience with Drosophila genetics
- Understanding of DNA databases, such as UCSC Genome Browser
- Competence in using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, or similar software
- Knowledge of basic cell and molecular biology principles
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Strong organizational skills
