The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Cerebrovascular Laboratory by assisting in the coordination, preparation, and day-to-day operation of lab research projects. This position will perform research, as well as be responsible for tasks such as inventory management and communication/collaboration processes for an international study with multiple sites.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the coordination of clinical trial activities under the supervision of the Program Manager and Principal Investigator.
  • Support the setup, initiation, and day-to-day operations of multi-site clinical studies, including international trials.
  • Coordinate and track study documentation, site communications, and regulatory submissions.
  • Schedule and organize meetings, including preparation of agendas, taking minutes, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
  • Facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders, including international collaborators, sponsors, and CROs.
  • Assist in the preparation of study materials, including protocol documents, training materials, and presentations.
  • Help maintain compliance with IRB, FDA, and other regulatory bodies’ requirements for clinical research.
  • Support subject screening, enrollment, and follow-up as needed, in coordination with clinical site teams.
  • Manage logistics for travel, training, events, and study/lab-related shipments.
  • Contribute to the organization and operational flow of the laboratory, including inventory management, record-keeping, and scheduling, meetings coordination
  • Communicate effectively with all collaborators (e.g., English-speaking, Spanish-speaking, etc.) as needed.
  • Collaborate with lab personnel on grant-related activities, reporting deadlines, and dissemination of results.
  • Support efforts to optimize workflows, improve processes, and identify opportunities for increased efficiency in clinical trial management and in lab operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and research data.
  • Work on other projects as deemed appropriate by lab leadership.

Percentage of Effort: 100% (40 hours/week)

Please note: This is a specified term position that will last 12 months. An extension may be reviewed after the initial 12 months but is not guaranteed.

The Cerebrovascular and Neurointerventional Research Laboratory is dedicated to pioneering advancements in the field of Neurointerventional surgery. Our research team is deeply committed to enhancing clinical practices and outcomes for patients suffering from a spectrum of cerebrovascular disorders, including stroke, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, unruptured aneurysms, carotid artery disease, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), and other related conditions. Through our focused clinical research, we strive to forge new frontiers in endovascular treatments and patient care.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in healthcare, project management, business, or international studies preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience in project coordination, project management, health care, or similar role.
  • Experience with coordinating logistics, managing timelines, and communicating across teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a clinical, academic, or medical research setting.
  • Knowledge of IRB processes, good clinical practice (GCP), and clinical trial conduct.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal (written and verbal) communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
