Research Assistant, National Advanced Driving Simulator
Education Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- General knowledge of research labs and procedures.
- Evening, weekend and overnight hours are required as needed during research studies.
- Experience with word processing and spreadsheet software: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in recruiting, scheduling and consenting human subjects; as well as experience in collecting data for research studies involving human participants
- Experience administering and coding questionnaires, as well as questionnaire design. Experience with using software to design questionnaires such as Qualtrics or REDCap.
- Transportation research experience with measurement of human performance in vehicles (simulation and/or on-road vehicles)
- Have a valid driver license and ability to meet and maintain UI driving requirements.
Desired Qualifications
- General knowledge and experience with the collection of human subject’s data including the policies and procedures for obtaining Institutional Review Board approval; experience with the policies and procedures of the University of Iowa Institutional Review Board and HawkIRB.
- Experience with the use of eye tracking technology, biometric sensor, or other physiological sensors. Ability to analyze and interpret data from those sensors.
- Experience with database, mathematical, and analysis software: Microsoft Access, SAS/SPSS/R, and Mathworks Matlab.
- Experience with simulation authoring tools for development and testing.
- Familiarity and experience with vehicle automation technologies (Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, AutoPilot, SuperCruise, etc.).
- Ability to drive or ride in a simulator or vehicle for long time periods (e.g., 2+ hours).
