The Research Development Office (RDO) seeks a Research Development Coordinator to provide administrative support and coordination for Research Development Office and Office of the Vice President for Research programs, including strategic funding initiatives. Support interdisciplinary research teams pursuing large-scale research projects by identifying funding sources and solicitations and assisting in grant proposal preparation. Facilitate internal funding programs and the institutional limited submission opportunities process. Coordinate competitive and strategic intelligence activities, proposal reviews, and planning and/or supporting program activities.

About the Research Development Office
The Research Development Office (RDO), founded in 2017, is a core unit within the Office of the Vice President for Research. The RDO team orchestrates campus-wide initiatives that spark collaboration such as Innovation Labs and Ideas Labs. We strategically oversee internal funding initiatives to ignite research and discovery on campus, in our local communities, and beyond. We help facilitate connections to resources enabling motivated researchers to identify funding opportunities, develop grantsmanship skills, and create connections that support successful research proposals.   


Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required

A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Administrative or program experience and/or project management experience (6 months -1 year).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as demonstrated at a working proficiency level.
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and high reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality customer service in a deadline driven environment.

Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with research development and/or research administration, including knowledge of processes, tools, and services for proposal development, strategic research advancement, or enhancement of collaboration/Team Science (6 months - 1 year).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Working knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures, and regulations, and experience working with the University of Iowa Research Information System (UIRIS).
  • General understanding of federal funding agencies and/or private foundations.
  • Direct experience advising researchers on appropriateness of funding sources and strategies for interactions with agencies.
