The Pharmacy Compliance Coordinator provides essential operational and administrative support to key pharmacy compliance functions within the University of Iowa Health Care. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate record-keeping, licensing maintenance, and coordination of regulatory documentation to maintain institutional compliance with federal, state, and hospital pharmacy regulations. The compliance coordinator will support policy documentation, adverse drug reaction (ADR) tracking, and inspection readiness through compliance audits.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain current pharmacy licenses and registrations including Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Board of Pharmacy credentials; coordinate documentation and submission processes to meet regulatory timelines.
  • Serve as a point of contact for departmental policy document maintenance, ensuring timely updates, version control, and routing for necessary approvals.
  • Support Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) program efforts by entering, monitoring, and reporting data under the direction of the pharmacy compliance team.
  • Coordinate and track completion of regular unit inspections and cleanroom compliance audits; ensure documentation is accurate and retrievable for internal and external audits.
  • Monitor policy expiration timelines and collaborate with team members to ensure regulatory documents and procedures remain current.
  • Participate in ongoing communication with internal departments regarding compliance expectations, inspection readiness, and pharmacy-related regulations.
  • Assist with documentation gathering for regulatory surveys [e.g., The Joint Commission (TJC), DEA, Board of Pharmacy] and internal investigations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, pharmacy license renewals, audit findings, and other relevant pharmacy documentation.
  • Demonstrate initiative and attention to detail in daily compliance support tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, and compliance leadership to ensure standards are upheld across the department and institution.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with three years of related experience OR 6 years of related experience without a bachelors degree
  • Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at the time of hire.

Desired Qualifications 

  • Prior experience supporting compliance, licensure, or regulatory processes in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • Master’s Degree in relevant field (e.g. MHA, MPH)
  • Familiarity with SharePoint or other document management systems.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including document tracking and regulatory scheduling.
  • Experience with pharmacy operations, cleanroom compliance, or adverse drug event tracking.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to support collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
