Get to know the Tippie College of Business

Since 1847, the Tippie College of Business has cultivated a legacy of innovation, thought leadership, and excellence in business education. We are over 4,700 students with BBA and graduate programs spanning six academic departments—accounting, business analytics, economics, finance, marketing, and management and entrepreneurship. Please note: This role is advertised as hybrid within Iowa. Work will be performed majority remote. However, it will be expected you are on campus for team meetings and events up to 10% of the time over each semester. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC JOB TASKS

Collect, Analyze, and Interpret Data for Decision Making

  • Support GPP program management functions through regular, routine, cyclical projects and tasks.
    • Data needs are handled accurately and competently.
    • Takes initiative to partner and communicate with other units and individuals within the unit to increase effectiveness.
  • Seek ways to leverage existing and new data and insights for holistic organizational improvements across GPP.
    • Efficiency improvements

    • Student, faculty and staff experience impact
  • Fulfill ad-hoc project requests from GPP units and team members.
  • Seek input from GPP stakeholders to answer complex business questions that require extensive knowledge of data assets across GPP.
  • General understanding of statistics and data analytics to perform routine and complex data analysis.
  • Able to effectively apply knowledge of relational/CRM/SIS databases and data visualization tools.
  • Combine data analysis, visualization, and narrative structures to convey information in compelling ways that instigate deliberate action within GPP.

Continuous Improvement: Data and Data Processes

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve complex data issues, ensuring accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, and validity of GPP’s data.
  • Examine existing data gathering and storage processes to recommend opportunities to create more efficient processes within GPP functional area.

Best Practices & Standards

  • May provide functional and/or general use application/program/system training internal to GPP systems and team members.
  • Share and communicate best practices and standards for data collection, storage, retrieval and reporting among GPP units.
  • Drive the definition of data visualization standards and the documentation of best practices for data collection, storage, retrieval, and reporting findings within GPP.

Communication, Teamwork and Project Management 

  • Collaborate with GPP team members to gather and document their input and insights, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of existing processes, problem statements, and business needs.
  • Convey information effectively to peers, partners, and senior leaders, using various resources and formats (synchronous and asynchronous, verbal and written) such as e-mails, presentations, meetings, and workshops.
  • Provide regular communication with team and leadership stakeholders to provide project progress feedback.
  • Seek feedback on communication style and effectiveness, demonstrating a willingness to adapt as necessary.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment by exhibiting strong teamwork, approachability, and cooperation. 

Leadership & Supervision

  • Contribute ideas and seeks ways to improve existing processes within GPP.
  • Proactively solicit input and ideas from other team members, develops and demonstrates an understanding from multiple viewpoints before arriving at a recommendation or conclusion.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity ensuring stakeholders have a voice in projects that may impact their work.
  • Provide and accept ideas and suggestions in a constructive and helpful manner.
  • Leverage and identify new ways to use data to advance GPP’s achievement of strategic goals.
  • May provide functional and/or administrative supervision of assigned project members.

Required Qualifications 

  • Master’s Degree and a minimum three to five years of related experience analyzing data and generating institutional summaries, reports, and analysis, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to concurrently manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Working knowledge and experience using relational/CRM/SIS databases and data visualization tools effectively.
  • Extensive knowledge & experience in:
    • Statistical analysis using standard statistical packages (such as SPSS, SAS, R), data mining and business intelligence software.
    • Reporting/visualization software (Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or other similar tools).
    • Utilizing written and verbal communication skills to provide excellent communication with internal and external customers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience using quantitative methods to characterize data populations and using software for data aggregation, analysis, and presentation.
  • Experience determining information needs and desired analysis by interviewing those requesting data collection and reporting.
  • Knowledge of relational database query (SQL) skills and large databases.
  • Previous hands-on experience building Metrics, Balanced Score Cards, Key Performance Indicators, Data Analysis, with dashboard data visualization techniques.
  • Willingness to find crucial data dimensions and data quality issues in a complex data environment.
  • Experience analyzing data into information summaries for program improvement.
  • Experience in a University environment.
  • Working knowledge of university systems such as MAUI and Salesforce.
