Senior Dental Assistant - Orthodontics, College of Dentistry
The College of Dentistry’s, Orthodontics department is seeking a passionate Dental Assistant to join their team! You will be assisting chair side helping to provide exceptional oral and orthodontic care to patients of all ages, including those with special needs.

Responsibilities:
· Assist in oral/orthodontic healthcare for patients, including children and those with special needs.
· Aid in banding, bonding, and removal of appliances.
· Perform tasks such as placing separators, fitting bands, and changing arch wires.
· Conduct intraoral scanning or alginate impressions for records and applicant fabrication.
· Perform isolation procedures and acid etches for banding and bonding.
· Process radiographs and CBCTs under OSHA guidelines.
· Set up Orthodontic trays and equipment for procedures.
· Conduct inventory management and order supplies.
· Manage patient entry and procedures in Axium.
· Administer and train on specialized patient care techniques.
· Perform routine maintenance of dental equipment and prepare instruments for sterilization.
· Maintain cleanliness of clinic areas and restock supplies.
· Explain clinical operation policies and procedures to students and staff.
· Coordinate with ortho lab for appliance delivery and follow up.
· Participate in outreach programs, such as cleft clinic assistance.

Salary: $50,905.44 (Pay Grade: 10)
An advanced starting salary may be possible based on exceptional qualifications.
Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00am to 5:00pm
May require occasional overtime.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Successful completion of a CODA accredited dental assistance program or one year of full-time equivalency chairside assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry.
2. Current DANB Dental Assistant Certification.
3. Expanded Functions (EF-1). Required based on specific advanced responsibilities assigned by the provider or as needs are defined in clinic.
4. Must have a current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners (QDA).
5. Must possess current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography. (QDA)
6. Five years of experience assisting in the four-handed method of dentistry beyond the educational requirements for this position.
Desirable Qualifications:
· DANB Orthodontic Certification.
· Experience with electronic health record.
· Experience with intraoral scanning.
· Experience with children/adolescents.
· Experience working with individuals with craniofacial anomalies and/or special needs.
· Ability to provide clear instruction/direction to individuals w/a variety of needs.
· Ability to deescalate situations as the need may arise.
