Senior Financial Analyst
The Senior Financial Analyst will provide analytical expertise and operational support for managed care contracting and revenue integrity initiatives, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and payor regulations. This role will play a pivotal part in optimizing reimbursement strategies, supporting financial forecasting, contract performance evaluation, and strategic decision-making within the University of Iowa Health Care and the Carver College of Medicine (CCOM).
In addition to being a key resource in managed care analytics, this position will collaborate across departments to enhance financial workflows, contract management methodologies, and reporting precision. The analyst will assess reimbursement models, payer performance metrics, and alternative payment arrangements to optimize financial outcomes and sustainability.
This role demands strategic problem-solving abilities, adaptability across multiple financial initiatives, and a commitment to data integrity and compliance. Working closely with leadership, this individual will play a critical role in aligning UI Health Care’s managed care strategies with organizational financial goals, ensuring that contracting decisions support cost-efficient, high-quality care delivery.
Position responsibilities:
Contract Oversight and Managed Care Strategy
Support managed care contracting and revenue integrity initiatives, ensuring contract compliance, financial forecasting, and performance monitoring.
Analyze commercial payer contracts, reimbursement models, and financial trends to optimize hospital and provider payment strategies.
Maintain and assess contractual financial data, ensuring accuracy and alignment with regulatory requirements and hospital financial goals.
Provide expertise in hospital reimbursement methodologies, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer models impacting managed care initiatives.
Financial Reporting and Data Integrity
Oversee the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting related to hospital contracting, payment models, and revenue integrity functions.
Utilize financial analysis tools to generate detailed reports supporting compliance, strategic decision-making, and reimbursement optimization.
Develop comprehensive reporting tools for management regarding payments, collections, denials, and appeals.
Assist leadership by aligning financial analytics and reporting deliverables with regulatory requirements and strategic priorities.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Advisory
Serve as a key resource on hospital contracting and financial implications of managed care strategies.
Collaborate across finance, clinical operations, and IT to refine financial workflows, enhance efficiency, and improve reporting methodologies, including outside of hospital based contracting projects when needed.
Provide data-driven insights to executive leadership, supporting informed decision-making and strategic planning for managed care contracting.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including government agencies, payers, and affiliated healthcare entities.
Continuous Improvement and Strategic Support
Identify financial risks and implement controls to enhance reporting accuracy, reduce compliance issues, and optimize revenue integrity.
Lead or contribute to process improvements in hospital contracting, reporting systems, and compliance strategies.
Develop audit tools and conduct ongoing audit and review of decision support output to ensure accuracy of reported information.
Supervise clerical support staff and students as needed, ensuring effective execution of financial operations and reporting tasks.
Required:
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
3 years of experience in health care with an emphasis on reimbursement and contract management.
3 years of financial analysis experience.
3 years of experience using complex databases.
Extensive knowledge of MS Excel and Office Suite.
Proficient in statistical and financial analysis.
Demonstrated ability to turn raw data into actionable information.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated competency in complex financial analysis and presentation.
Relevant healthcare financial experience, particularly in hospital contracting and reimbursement models.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
Desired:
Experience with Epic’s Patient Accounting System, including Reporting Workbench.
Epic Revenue Data Model (Clarity) certification.
Understanding of or experience with CPT-4 and ICD-10 medical coding.
Experience with dedicated contract analysis software.
