The Respiratory department at the Downtown Campus is seeking a full-time Sr. Respiratory Therapist. To be responsible for the delivery of respiratory care, including ventilation, medical gas therapy, medicated aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, blood gas sampling and analysis, non-invasive oxygen and carbon dioxide monitoring, and to supervise the implementation of respiratory care in the patient care units.  Provide critical care expertise, education, routine shift staffing and shift operations relief. 

  • Selected candidates will be eligible for a $10,000 sign-on incentive if all qualifications are met including a minimum two-year commitment. Current UI employees are not eligible.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Institutes and provides mechanical ventilation; institutes & provides all forms of CPAP & BiPAP; delivers medical gas therapy; provides safe delivery of medicated aerosol & general therapies; provides pulmonary hygiene standards; performs blood gas sampling & analysis; provides non-invasive monitoring; participates in orientation/education activities; assist in the training of students; adheres to hospital epidemiological practices; maintains appearance, demeanor, and attendance; maintains licensure; performs senior therapist duties; participates in technical operations of department; performs other special projects & tasks as assigned. *Respiratory Therapists must be a graduate of a Commission of Accreditation Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved program.

Shift: Night shift (6p-6a)

Percent of Time: 90-100%. Please note that the salary listed is based on 100% time

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

  • A Bachelor's degree in a health related science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or National Society for Cardiopulmonary Technology and licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Iowa is required
  • Maintain active NBRC Membership
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Respiratory Care practice is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Possess a current State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: 
  • 3 to 5 years of recent critical care experience
  • Proficient in computer software applications
  • Respiratory Care-Adult Critical Care Specialist (RRT-ACCS)
  • Neonatal Specialty Care Respiratory Care Specialist (RRT-NPS)
