Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform complex diagnostic ultrasonography procedures including imaging and Doppler.
- Consult with the interpreting physician regarding the ultrasound exam findings.
- Document exam information as required by departmental standards.
- Evaluate images of ultrasound exams and determine if the exam is of diagnostic quality.
- Assist with and provide ultrasound guidance for intraoperative and invasive procedures.
- Provide information and instructions to patient, patient’s family or others, regarding the nature of requested diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
- Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation, I.V. placement, vital sign monitoring and recording, and basic life support; prepare and administer contrast material to patients.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
- Instruct and evaluate sonography students on the operation of diagnostic equipment.
- Instruct medical residents on operation of diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain quality control with the ultrasound section in accordance with accepted departmental standards.
- Determine equipment malfunctions and contact repair service.
- Perform equipment calibration and sterilization as prescribed by standard accepted methods of operation.
- Maintain certification as specified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Pay Grade: 38
· Regular salaried position located in West Des Moines, Iowa

Percent of Time: 70% (28 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Variable hours, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, some travel required, & rotating weekends
Location: West Des Moines Women’s Health Clinic, Jordan Creek Parkway
Requires completion of one of the following educational pathways:

CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology, OR

Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing, etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography, OR

Completion of a bachelor’s degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography
Experience Required:

Requires registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers within nine (9) months following the start of employment in at least one specialty area (i.e. Abdomen or Obstetrics/Gynecology) with preference given for two or more specialties.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Driver’s License and ability to meet University of Iowa Fleet Safety Standards is required.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- Previous EPIC experience
- Prior work experience in OBGYN ultrasound
Desired Qualifications:
- Membership in appropriate professional organizations desired.
- Willingness to train in additional modalities
