A Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology is required.

 

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology issued by the American Boards of Examiners of Speech Pathology and Audiology of the American Speech and Hearing Association or qualifications equivalent to such certification is required.  An individual is considered to possess such equivalent qualifications if s/he meets the academic, practicum and supervised experience requirements for certification and has achieved an acceptable score on the National Examination in Speech Pathology.

 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

 

Some (6 months – 1 year) experience in Speech Pathology is required.

 

Experience working with patients who have neurogenic (stroke, brain injury, neoplasms) communication and swallowing disorders is required.

 

Experience performing videofluoroscopic swallow assessments/oropharyngeal motility studies is highly desired.

 

Experience using electronic medical record is highly desired.

 

Experience using and providing alternative and augmentative communication is highly desired.

 

Experience performing flexible fiberoptic endoscopic evaluations of swallowing is desired.

 

Experience evaluating and treating communication and swallowing disorders in adult patients with tracheostomy/mechanical ventilation including tracheostomy speaking valves is desired.
