STAFF NURSE - 5 SOUTH / ADULT ACUTE INTERNAL MEDICINE UNIT


Salary: $52,701 to commensurate *This does not include inpatient or shift differentials

 

The Adult Acute Internal Medicine Unit is a 13-bed general medicine inpatient unit that serves a variety of patients. The unit is designed to provide high quality, personalized care for patients.  We are pleased that we are able to provide our patients with private rooms, granting them the quite atmosphere to rest and heal. The patients we care for on this unit include diseases and disorders from the following body systems but are not limited to:

 

·Circulatory

·Dermatology

·Endocrine

·Immune

·Gastrointestinal

·Neurological

·Pulmonary

·Renal

 

The patient population for this unit is diverse, including patients with

 

• Abdominal pain

•Back pain

•Chest pain

•Headaches

• Syncope

 

Outpatient procedure patients recover here as well, and the average length of stay is less than 48 hours.


In addition to clinical management, great focus is placed on comprehensive patient education and discharge teaching.

 

We use a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that is patient centered and encourages teamwork between nursing staff, physicians, therapy teams, social work, care coordination, and pharmacists. 

  

Positions available at this time include:

  • 90% Rotating shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts, rotating days off and 48 hours of weekend time in a 6 week schedule.
  • 90% Day/Night shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts, rotating days off, and 48 hours of weekend time in 6 week schedule.
  • 80% Rotating shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts, rotating days off and 48 hours of weekend time in a 6 week schedule.
  • 60% Rotating Shifts, 8 & 12 hour shifts, rotating days off and 48 hours of weekend time in a 6 week schedule.
  • 60% Weekend option - Night shifts.

 

REFERENCES:  Five professional references will be requested and required at a later step in the recruitment process.

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • Previous RN inpatient experience or recent internship on an inpatient unit is desired.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures is desired.
