The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics will be opening a new psychiatric inpatient unit in Spring 2021. This state of the art unit design features private rooms, natural light-filled spaces, open nurses’ station and exercise rooms. Innovative technology has been integrated into this space to promote a safe environment for staff and patients.

7RC is separated into a 12 bed mood disorder unit and a 13 bed eating disorder unit. We will utilize an evidence based, patient-centered, interdisciplinary approach, with contributions from physicians, psychologists, advance practice providers, master level therapists, nurses, social workers, dieticians, occupational and recreational therapists, all striving to work collaboratively with patients and families to provide the best possible care. 7RC will feature a new collaborative position, behavioral health consultant, with the goal to elevate the patient and team outcomes. Evidence based therapeutic modalities utilized on the unit will include dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma informed care.

 

Percent of Time: 60%
Schedule: 24 hours per week, 8 - 12 hour shifts, Evening Shifts
Location: Roy Carver Pavilion (UIHC Main Campus)
Rotations: Every other weekend and rotating holidays
Salary: $31,779.00 per year to commensurate *This does not include inpatient or shift differentials

Education Required

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
  • Knowledge of university and hospital policies and procedures is desired
