Staff Nurse (M-F; 800-1630; 1st Shift) - PET Radiology
Sign-on incentive: Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000 based on years of experience.
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Staff Nurse to provide specialized care in a highly regulated environment in the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging Center. The Staff Nurse will assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice, and provide leadership to members of the health care team to maintain patient care standards.
Duties Include:
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across various care settings.
- Provides pre, intra- and post-procedure nursing care (assessment, monitoring, intervention, and education) related to diagnostic and research procedures.
- Assists in the collection of arterial and venous blood samples.
- Prepares and completes daily patient workup for next day’s scheduled patients, including PET/CT, diagnostic CT, and research patients.
- Accurately completes, documents, and files required daily/weekly/monthly equipment checks and clinic audits.
- Monitors and ensures adequate supply levels in the department, ordering supplies when needed.
- Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents and reports interventions and patient/family response/education.
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0800-1630. No weekends nor holiday calls.

Educational Requirements:
- An Associate degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Professional Master of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a master’s degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- If a Baccalaureate degree is Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is required.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum one year of recent RN experience
- Experience in tracheostomy care
- Experience with arterial lines
- Experience placing IV access
- Experience accessing ports
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and limited resources
- Demonstration of strong organizational skills and time management
- Previous experience using electronic medical records
Certification Requirements:
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
- BLS Certification.
Desired Qualifications:
- Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- EKG recognition experience
