The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered 100% Staff Nurse to work at our Scott Boulevard Primary Care Clinics. This position will support our: Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and/or Specialty/Outreach Clinics. This position will support the clinic in providing phone triage support, helping with prior authorizations, as well as assist with nurse visits.

Our Psychiatry Clinic provides compassionate care and individualized treatment optionsfrom medications to therapyfrom our team of behavioral and mental health specialists to help you live a full and productive life. The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa is renowned for its expertise in caring for individuals suffering from major mental illness.

Our Pediatric Clinic specializes in the care of infants, children, and adolescents and provide a range of services from well-child care, to basic childhood immunizations and illnesses, to managing complex medical conditions and chronic disorders. Our team develops relationships and gets to know our patients and monitor patient care history and deliver personalized, compassionate care every time to each patient. 

Our Family Medicine staff can see everyone in the family, in every generation, from birth, for life. And when anyone in the family needs specialty care, our family medicine provider connects our patients with the UI Health Care specialist needed. UIHC specialists will consult the same medical record used by our family medicine provider so our patients specialty care is streamlined. 

This position will mainly support our patients at Scott Blvd Clinics but could float to other clinic locations based on clinical needs/hours.

Duties to include:

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)

Schedule: 2 positions available.

Position #1: 4/10 hour shifts; Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM, no weekends, no holidays and no on-call time.

Position #2: 4/10 hour shifts; Monday - Friday: 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM, no weekends, no holidays, and no on-call time.

Location: Scott Boulevard Clinic (and surround clinics/locations based on clinic needs)

Pay Grade: 52 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans

Salary: $55,910 - $102,559 (based on years of experience)

Education

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required

Required Qualifications

  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Highly Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
  • Previous experience successfully working autonomously.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and patient populations is crucial; be comfortable working in various departments and clinics such as primary care and specialty services.

Desirable Qualifications

  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • Previous experience with triage phone calls in outlook
  • Previous experience with Epic messages/phone calls/results/fax inbox
  • Previous experience with prior authorizations
  • Assist with nurse visits during downtime
  • Minimum 6 months ambulatory experience
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
