The University of Iowa Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Supply Chain Associate. The primary responsibility of this position is receiving, warehousing, shipping, and distributing materials in support of a current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) manufacturing facility. Under general supervision the position coordinates with staff to ensure availability of necessary materials by monitoring current inventory and executing established re-order points. The Supply Chain Associate is responsible for verifying items upon receipt with adherence to material specifications prior to acceptance.

Key Areas of Responsibility 

Procure and Deliver Goods and Services

  • Evaluate, procure, receive, and store inventory based on pre-set re-order points and project requests.
  • Pull inventory according to set pick lists and deliver to production personnel.  Deduct inventory from materials database according to production depletion.  
  • Sample specified quantities of materials and components received per appropriate material specification documentation.
  • Package high value shipments as directed by Supply Chain Coordinator or Supply Chain Specialist.

Research Products, Prepare Product/Equipment Specifications, and Contract Management

  • Obtain and verify information regarding sourcing and acquisition options at the request of others.
  • Review contracts for accurate pricing and apply terms and conditions.
  • Purchase materials according to specifications.

Inventory Management 

  • Maintain and secure inventory and report issues as needed.
  • Assure warehouse items are properly labeled and within expiration dating.
  • Stock materials in pre-determined locations.
  • Operate electric pallet jacks, walk behind stacker and aerial lift to store and retrieve stock inventory.

Vendor and Customer Relations

  • Interact with vendors/suppliers to assure the appropriate goods or services are being procured effectively and efficiently.  
  • Interact with internal and external customers, answer questions about orders and shipments.
  • Reconcile discrepancies and address customer or department concerns.

Data Management 

  • Enter information for all outside testing into material database and generate corresponding Reports of Analysis for inclusion in executed batch records or to release raw materials.  
  • Receive, quarantine, and enter information into a materials database or inventory management program and generate accompanying documentation.  

Fiscal Responsibility 

  • Monitor inventory costs and advise management of budgetary needs or discrepancies.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in warehouse or inventory management.

Experience Required

  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow direction; complete assignments timely and accurately.  
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to meet University of Iowa Fleet Services standards.

 Desirable Qualifications

  • 1-3 years demonstrated experience in warehouse or inventory management in the pharmaceutical industry or a related field.
  • Experience with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) current Good Manufacturing (cGMP) or similar regulations.
