The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is seeking a full-time, Ambulatory Care, Supply chain Coordinator to join our ACT Circle Pharmacy team.

The new UI Health Care – ACT Circle Pharmacy in Iowa City, IA will open in the Spring of 2025.  This pharmacy will provide several services for patients including the fulfillment and shipping of medications. UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming, highly skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of the opening team for this facility and to help further our mission of: Changing Medicine.  A person in this role has strong foundational skills in purchasing and inventory management and strong communication skills. This position will provide oversight of the pharmacy inventory levels as well as interact with pharmacy staff and pharmaceutical vendors. The pharmacy supply chain coordinator position is considered essential for the effective long-term operation of the outpatient pharmacies. Persons appointed to this position will receive the privileges and benefits associated with regular employment status.

Position Responsibilities

  • Identify supply utilization/management optimization opportunities and facilitate savings implementation.
  • Oversee supply chain operations for Ambulatory Care Pharmacies including daily drug ordering and shortage management.  This position would primarily be responsible for inventory operations at UI Health Care - ACT Circle Pharmacy.
  • Work with Ambulatory Care Pharmacy staff to facilitate special orders.
  • Analyze utilization data to maintain inventory ordering points.
  • Assist with oversight of 340B program and purchases.
  • Provide accurate financial information in a cost-effective, efficient and timely manner.
  • Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved. Procure goods and services on behalf of the department at the best value to the University and to assure compliance.
  • Develop and implement a standardized purchasing and inventory management process.
  • Develop and maintain processes to review and audit invoice price against contract price.  Work with Purchasing or Operations Managers to resolve discrepancies.
  • Report monthly inventory values to Finance, justifying and validating significant changes.
  • Facilitate cycle counts and 100% inventory process.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement regulations and contract specifications.
  • Process detailed information with good accuracy.
  • Monitor and facilitate check-in and stocking of received orders using required technology.
  • Maintain necessary compliance to accept and sign for order or deliveries.
  • Process daily deposits for the pharmacy.

    Education Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Successful completion of the pharmacy technician certification exam within twelve months of the start of employment. 

     Experience Requirements

    • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience with supply management principles/applications and procurement.
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to provide and accept ideas and suggestions in a constructive and helpful manner.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, creating positive working relationships with team members including healthcare providers, vendors, supply chain staff and pharmacy staff.

     Desired Qualifications

    • Knowledge and/or experience with PeopleSoft, Epic, McKesson Connect, the 340B program and Macrohelix™.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of supply chain management and operation improvement in a pharmacy setting.
    • Ability to effectively multi-task, keeping multiple initiatives moving forward simultaneously.
    • Previous pharmacy experience.
    • Certification in supply chain management.
