University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Health Information Management, Record Processing Division is seeking an individual to join our team as a full-time Medical Record Identity Specialist (Support Services Specialist) – Remote Eligible to investigate and resolve patient identity issues such as merging duplicate patient medical records or unmerging incorrectly merged records.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and resolve patient identity issues. 
  • Communicate appropriately with providers and clinical staff.
  • Provide input/suggestions regarding policies, practices, and programs that improve services.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient information including computerized data.

This position location is in Coralville, IA and eligible to participate in remote work.  Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the State of Iowa.  Training will be held onsite at the Health Care Support Services (HSSB) building at a length determined by the supervisor.  Remote eligibility will be evaluated upon a satisfactory job training and meeting required performance standards. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

  • Review and resolve medical record patient identity issues to ensure correct patient information in correct medical record.
  • Communicate and collaborate with co-workers, external agencies, and hospital departments to enhance health information services.
  • Provide input/suggestions regarding policies, practices, and programs that improve services.

University Pay Grade:  3A Professional and Scientific Pay Structures | University Human Resources - The University of Iowa

Annual Salary:  $41,541 to Commensurate

Percent of Time:  100%, 40 hours per week

Staff Type:  Professional & Scientific

Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4 pm with ½ unpaid lunch.  Additional hours as needed.

Location: Hospital Support Services Building (HSSB), 3281 Ridgeway Drive, Coralville, IA  52241

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, business administration or the equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
    • 1 year experience working with medical records/health information.
    • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
    • Knowledge and proficiency with computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Office suite).
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Three or more years working with medical records/health information
    • Knowledge or experience with duplicate medical record or incorrectly merged medical record processes
    • Knowledge of UI Health Care medical record/health information functions
    • Knowledge and experience with Epic Clinical Documentation system
    • Knowledge or experience with Epic Medical Record Tracking system
    • Knowledge of UI Health Care policies and procedures
    • Experience using Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams
    • Certification as RHIT or RHIA
