Support Services Specialist- Perioperative Services 100%
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Perioperative Services Support Services Specialist is responsible for coordinating and planning necessary support staff and equipment for surgical cases. This position maintains the OR schedule and is instrumental in education and execution of policy surrounding the delivery of services across the Perioperative environment. This position delivers various data reports needed for Perioperative Services. The Support Services Specialist is structured with a reporting relationship to the Health Care Services Manager for Perioperative Services. The Perioperative Services Support Services Specialist works in collaboration with the Perioperative clinical and administrative leadership and serves as an integral resource to the Surgical Services Subcommittee by providing support to both departmental initiatives and the expeditious coordination of resources in scheduling patients for surgery.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Coordinates appropriate resources for surgical cases to facilitate the provision of care throughout the Perioperative Services environment.
· Ensures tasks are performed and operations carried out in compliance of Perioperative Services policies and expectations.
· Serves as a resource in communicating feedback, coaching, Perioperative Policies to surgical services schedulers.
· Maintains and works through queue of additional time request cases.
· Develops plans in collaboration with nursing, anesthesia and other necessary support services to find OR time for cases.
· Resolves equipment conflicts and other barriers to schedule surgical cases in Epic.
· Serves as an expert in LeanTaas iQueue scheduling and analytics platform.
· Produces various OR related reports at the request of perioperative leadership – including input to the surgical case volumes budget.
· Engages with service schedulers to understand services surgeons needs and relay any upcoming Perioperative initiatives.
· Communicates OR access barriers to perioperative leadership, service schedulers, and surgeons as needed.
· Incorporates the principles of Service Excellence to ensure positive collaborations with members of Perioperative Services.
· Ensures all interactions are respectful and in a manner consistent with University of Iowa policies.
Percent of Time: 100% - 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday- Friday 0700-1700.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Moderate (1-3 years) experience providing clinical operations support.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Organization skills and attention to detail.
· Proficiency in computer software applications and database applications (such as Microsoft programs).
· Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience with medical terminology.
· Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.
· Experience with LeanTaas iQueue scheduling system.
· Previous healthcare experience with demonstrated ability to promote favorable working relationships (surgeons, support services, administration, and staff).
