Technical Director - Theatre Arts

Education Required:

• A Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in technical theatre design or production or a combination of education and experience. 

Required Qualifications:

Three-year minimum experience in Performing Arts Technical Direction. 

Minimum of one year experience in structural engineering with steel and wood or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Minimum of one year of mechanical engineering with electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Proficiency in use of AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks. 

Valid Driver’s license, plus the ability to meet and maintain The University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standard.  

Demonstrates skills in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, particularly within the fine arts.  

Desirable Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in design and/or technical theatre direction.  

Experience working on productions in an academic setting, preferably in a higher education setting, providing a training ground and opportunities for experiential learning. 

Demonstrates basic proficiency in 3D rendering. 

Proficiency in the use of CNC controlled router tables using Aspire software. 

Proficiency in the use Creative Connors Stagehands Automated Stage equipment motion control systems. 

Proficiency in the use of variable speed programmable motion control systems for stage hoists.
