Position Summary:
Shift schedule rotates between the following times: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, 10:30 am – 7:00 pm, and 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm with the primary shift being 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Occasional weekend hours are required.
This position falls within and reports directly to University Housing and Dining. However, it is overseeing a franchise of a national brand so maintaining excellent working relationships with leadership for the national brand is essential. Additionally, this position ensures that quality, presentation and production of foods prepared and served within the Yella’s location meet all the Yella’s brand standards and guidelines. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to scheduling, hiring, training, inventory, ordering, and ensuring smooth daily operations. Also, marketing, fiscal growth and reporting in accordance with the Yella’s brand standards and the University Housing and Dining standards and practices. Satisfactory reports on all inspections including health department and brand compliance reviews.
Specific Job Duties & Tasks:
- Participates in and monitors the preparation and service of foods to brand standards.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises work of assigned staff.
- Performs administrative duties including physical inventory, production and ordering. Keep recipes and menus updated within food service suite.
- Prepares service and supply requisitions.
- Recommend measures to improve methods, equipment performance, scheduling quality control, and suggests changes to increase efficiency.
- Consults with Food Service and Department Management to coordinate retail operations, menus, product selection, and pricing.
- Performs management functions including interviewing, hiring, coaching, training, scheduling, evaluating and disciplining of assigned staff.
- Recommends salary increases, promotions, and status changes, including dismissals.
- Assures proper and safe use and maintenance of all equipment. Coordinates repairs as needed.
- Oversees and maintains safety and sanitary standards in all service areas according to the Iowa Health Code and internal standards.

Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, Institutional Management, Hotel & Restaurant Administration or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and supervisory experience.
- 6 months – 1 year experience in the preparation and distribution of foods.
- 6 months – 1 year experience in food service management, including training and supervising staff; and inventory control.
- Ability to work with third party partners, including the ability to travel to brand headquarters for training and necessary meetings.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
- Demonstrates the ability to adjust and develop self to prepare for new or changing assignments, processes, people or priorities as organizational needs dictate at a working proficiency level.
- Experience creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment.
- Demonstrates a working proficiency in the ability to collaborate and interact with individuals and groups.
- Demonstrates a working proficiency in the ability to provide excellent customer and to meet or exceed customer service needs.
- Ability to obtain and maintain ServSafe certification.
Desired Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in personnel supervision.
- Working experience in a large-scale food service operation.
- Some experience working with a collective bargaining unit.
