University of Iowa Health Care, Department of & Visual Sciences is seeking a 60% Pediatric Genetic Eye Coordinator (PVD1; 3A). The Pediatric Genetic Eye Coordinator is responsible for coordinating care and interacting with pediatric patients with inherited eye disease and their families, as seen by the faculty members of the Pediatric Genetic Eye Disease (PGED) service of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. This individual works alongside PGED faculty members, the genetic counselor, and other department personnel to support the operations of the PGED service.

 

  • Oversee the PGED clinic schedule.
  • Assist in collating and documenting results from previous ophthalmology and genetic testing.
  • Act as a liaison between families served in the pediatric genetic eye disease clinic and our clinical team members.
  • May assist with research projects on genetic vision loss by facilitating participation of a subset of patients with inherited eye disease in clinical research studies and providing health education to patients, family members, ophthalmology residents, fellows, and students.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00a-5:00p

Location: UI Health Care, Iowa City

On Campus: This position is performed fully on campus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in health, biological sciences, or human services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 1-3 years experience in an acute care, ambulatory clinic, or healthcare setting with patient interaction.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal and written) skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a cooperative team member

  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service

  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to analyze information and situations, prioritize tasks, and develop solutions to challenges

  • Ability to use good judgment while working independently and in a team setting

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as an orthoptist in a healthcare setting with patient care interaction.

  • Experience as an RN in an acute care, ambulatory clinic, or healthcare setting with patient interaction.

  • Experience working in a clinical eye care setting

  • Experience with Epic medical records system.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge of human genetics and genetics terminology

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures and regulations. 

  • Experience with genetic eye diseases and genetic patients.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Experience working with data and databases

  • Experience with the research process, specifically human clinical research.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues related to customer concerns or workflow changes and challenges.
