The Center for Disabilities and Development is seeking an Accountant who will be responsible for performing various accounting and administrative support functions in support of the Money Follows the Person (MFP) grant. This role will support MFP by preparing, reviewing, and processing financial information contained and managed within University of Iowa financial systems. This role must be strongly committed to providing a high-level of service to grant staff and leadership. This is a specified term position through 3/31/2025 with strong likelihood of continued funding.

Hybrid within Iowa: This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa and comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

  • Reconcile various transactions and invoices pertaining to the grant
  • May assist with the preparation of financial reports and information for grant leadership
  • Assist with monitoring of grant spending
  • Complete basic to moderately complex recurring transactional and reporting needs
  • May assist with the reconciliation of monthly transaction detail reports and completion of Grant Closeout workbooks at the end of each grant cycle
  • Collaborate with necessary University of Iowa Shared Services to make appropriate changes to assigned financial accounts
  • May assist with monthly Medicaid billing processes by submitting client information
  • Assist Finance Manager with ad-hoc financial requests.
  • Perform basic and routine analysis of financial transactions
  • Prepare standardized reports by utilizing established processes
  • Maintain a basic understanding of financial systems and processes within University of Iowa’s financial database
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with university, state, and federal laws and compliance standards.
  • Maintain appropriate storage of records and documentation for accounting transactions
  • Ensure all purchases and expenses adhere to university and funder policies
  • Initiate both ad-hoc and routine journal entries, change of status transactions, and purchase orders to ensure total accuracy within grant expenses
  • Process transactions of grant staff (Amazon E-buy, Purchase Orders, Cash advance purchases, etc.)
  • Reconcile procurement card transactions on a monthly basis for assigned staff and secure appropriate documentation
  • May review and approve transactions within UI Workflow
  • Could conduct potential analytical work and review of initiated transactions
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and develop financial training tools for staff use.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in business administration, finance, or related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years of experience working with financial accounting systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • High level of competency using Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Work and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to deadlines.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience using University of Iowa accounting and financial systems is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in grant accounting and management.
  • Previous experience with patient billing systems and revenue cycle.
  • Prior experience presenting financial and accounting information to small to medium-sized groups.
