**The AI Support Team, as part of IT Services at the University of Iowa, is seeking to hire either an AI Support Team Consultant or a Senior AI Support Team Consultant. The level and classification will be based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please indicate in your cover letter which level of position(s) you would like to be considered for.**

The University of Iowa is seeking a curious and knowledgeable AI Support Team Consultant or Senior AI Support Team Consultant.  This role will be a full-time member of the newly formed AI Support Team, reporting to the AI Support Team Manager. 

The AI Support Team are knowledge-leaders and go-to resources for the campus community and divide responsibilities within the team, allowing for specific areas of expertise to develop individually and for the team as a whole to provide broad coverage for the many use cases of AI on campus. The rapidly developing nature of AI technologies and their applications requires the AI Support Team to be extremely agile, adjusting efforts to meet demand and the changes required to help the campus adopt AI technologies.

The team strives to have a good understanding of the AI tools available to the university and their applications and closely monitors rapidly developing new applications and tools. The AI Support team holds responsibility for providing direction on the application of the university’s policy and guidance for the use of AI to specific situations.

AI Support Team Consultant

The AI Support Team Consultant will provide guidance, advice, consultation, and facilitated discussions with individuals and departments about how AI could enhance their activities.  This role will also assist individuals and departments with finding or developing solutions. 

  • Providing support for the direction set by the university's AI committees.
  • Offering advising and consultation services to individuals and departments, helping them understand how AI could enhance their activities and work with campus IT service providers to implement solutions.
  • Focusing on solutions that foster innovation and serve the widest possible range of the campus and promoting communication to prevent duplication or fragmentation of efforts and resources.
  • Supporting communities of AI practitioners across the campus, facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Participating in partnerships and collaborations with other universities, industry, and government entities to leverage their expertise, experience, and resources, while also sharing our learnings and challenges.
  • Meeting regularly with and providing support to other staff on campus that may receive questions about AI such as distributed IT and HR staff.

Senior AI Support Team Consultant

The Senior AI Support Team Consultant will provide advanced guidance, advice, consultation, and facilitated discussions with individuals and departments about how AI could enhance their activities. This role will also lead projects, independently assisting individuals and departments with finding or developing solutions. 

  • Providing support for the direction set by the university's AI committees.
  • Offering advanced advising and consultation services to individuals and departments, helping them understand how AI could enhance their activities
  • Leading efforts and projects that work with campus IT service providers to implement AI-related solutions.
  • Focusing on solutions that foster innovation and serve the widest possible range of the campus and promoting communication to prevent duplication or fragmentation of efforts and resources.
  • Supporting communities of AI practitioners across the campus, facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Participating in partnerships and collaborations with other universities, industry, and government entities to leverage their expertise, experience, and resources, while also sharing our learnings and challenges.
  • Meeting regularly with and providing support to other staff on campus that may receive questions about AI such as distributed IT and HR staff.
  • May lead management of AI services.

For Both Levels:

This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Qualifications

AI Support Team Consultant

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may also serve to meet this minimum requirement.
  • Experience (typically 1 year or more) in technology consulting, or a similar role, including a demonstrated ability to provide in-depth advice, guidance, training, and support related to information technology.
  • Basic knowledge of a variety of generative artificial intelligence tools used for different purposes (i.e. text generation, image creation, video creation, code creation, sound creation, etc.), and the ability to discern which of those technologies are best suited for different specific business use cases.
  • Experience with project management and/or workshop/training facilitation.
  • A strong foundation in technology with a keen interest in artificial intelligence and its applications in a professional environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as training skills, with the ability to explain complex technological concepts in an accessible manner to any audience.
  • Ability to identify and nurture collaboration and knowledge sharing practices related to new or updated technology.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with AI Support Team Members and stakeholders across campus to ensure seamless integration and support of AI initiatives, fostering a cohesive and innovative environment.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and interpersonal skills to effectively address and resolve AI-related issues, while maintaining positive and productive relationships with team members and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on the latest advancements in information technology.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience providing consultation related to generative artificial intelligence tools.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with the development of applied AI tools in the workplace (e.g. custom chatbots, virtual assistants, AI-powered design tools, AI-powered predictive modeling tools, AI-driven virtual training platforms, etc.)

Senior AI Support Team Consultant

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may also serve to meet this minimum requirement.
  • Experience (typically 3 years or more) in technology consulting, or a similar role, including a demonstrated ability to provide in-depth advice, guidance, training, and support related to information technology.
  • Strong knowledge of a variety of generative artificial intelligence tools used for different purposes (text generation, image creation, video creation, code creation, sound creation, etc.), and the ability to discern which of those technologies are best suited for different specific business use cases.
  • Experience with project management and/or workshop/training facilitation.
