The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking an Application Developer to design and/or modify components of complex clinical and administrative application systems.  Primary duties include workflow analysis, optimization, application build, testing and implementation.  Other responsibilities include monitoring production issues, testing special updates, and system documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience acting as a contact for the support, configuration and development of at least one enterprise application; experience working with end-users to define system requirements and understand business needs; ability to write technical specifications for complex integrated systems; and basic project management skills.  All positions require use of a pager and providing some 24 x 7 on-call support.

Salary: $51,718 to commensurate – Paygrade 4B

Education Required

Bachelor’s in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience.  

Required Qualifications
•    Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance healthcare workflows processes. Typically, 3-5 years of experience for an Application Developer role.
•    Experience contributing to an integrated information system implementation cycle though areas such as design, workflow analysis, build, training, implementation, testing and support.
•    Demonstrated experience working with end-users to define system requirements, understand business needs and convert business requirements into functional/technical specifications for complex integrated systems build.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management.
•    Experience communicating technical information effectively to technical and non-technical staff at the verbal, written and presentation levels.
•    Demonstrated job-related experience and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

•    Experience supporting an EMR in an ambulatory or hospital setting
•    Experience with any of the following workflows: health information management (HIM), release of information (ROI), hospital coding and billing, deficiency tracking
•    Epic certification related but not limited to the following:  Epic Health Information Management (HIM), Epic Release of Information (ROI), Epic Hospital Coding, Epic Deficiency Tracking, Epic Identity
•    Experience authoring training materials and conducting training sessions for groups of various sizes.
•    Strong problem solving and process improvement skills for managing service delivery, including developing workflows and new business processes.
•    Proven ability to write application test scripts
