Job Duties:
· Develop 3D porous scaffolds and injectable biomaterials for tissue engineering & drug delivery using techniques like electrospinning, 3D printing, and phase separation.
· Synthesize and characterize novel biomaterials, including biodegradable nanoparticles, for drug/gene delivery applications using advanced techniques.
· Conduct in vitro and in vivo studies, including cell culture, molecular biology assays, antibacterial testing, and animal surgeries for material transplantation and histological analysis.
· Design experiments and analyze data.
· Prepare/submit grant proposals and contribute to publications/presentations.
· Mentor graduate students, postdocs, and dental students in research and technical skills.
Assistant Research Scientist – PRJ1
College of Dentistry – Iowa Institute of Oral Health & Research (Iowa City, IA)
Salary: $72,695 to commensurate (Pay Grade: 5A)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
REQUIRES:
· PhD in materials/polymer science, organic/polymer chemistry, chemical/biomedical engineering, or other closely related area.
· 1 year relevant experience in bone tissue engineering.
HIGHLY Desirable:
· Experience/knowledge in 3D polymeric scaffolds fabrication, polymer synthesis, electrospinning, phase separation, 3D printing, scaffold-based drug delivery, stem cells for osteogenic differentiation.
· Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication.
· 1st authored peer-review publication in relevant journals; and
· Highly self-motivated and independent while willing to collaborate with others in an interdisciplinary group.
Desirable:
· Experience with Molecular biology and techniques, flow cytometry, anti-bacterial studies, and animal surgery.
