The Associate Director for Leadership & Engagement provides administrative, operational, and fiscal oversight for major University-wide recognized student organizations and events that are responsible for providing cultural, recreational, entertainment, leadership and service-oriented programming, namely Campus Activities Board (CAB), Family Weekend, SCOPE Productions, Homecoming Council. 


This position is also responsible for:

  • Promoting, coordinating, and evaluating on- and off-campus social programs and activities, with a primary focus on late night, weekend programming.
  • Leading and developing Leadership & Engagement’s Engagement Advising program.
  • Assist with the development and programming of the Mindful & Engaged Hawkeyes Program.
  • Coordinating the Bridging Our World program.
  • Providing support to the Excelling@Iowa, Hawkeye Engage, and other division of student life programs.


The Associate Director will also directly supervise the Coordinator for Student Activities and Programming. Will also lead Student Engagement & Campus Programs team meetings and serve as a member of the Leadership & Engagement Leadership Team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Development, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 3 years or more) working in higher education in advising, developing, coordinating, and evaluating student life and campus activities programming.
  • Demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism and experience working with students of color and other historically underrepresented students.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance.
  • Extensive experience in planning, organizing and executing large student life programs and events including contract negotiations.
  • Extensive knowledge of assessment methods and activities; ability to assess programs and review students' learning outcomes to ensure achievement of objectives and strategies.
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to apply policies and practices for planning and administering a budget and expense management.
  • Knowledge of university policies, procedures, and regulations.
