Clerk III, Health Information Management Department, Record Processing, University of Iowa Health Care, Health Care Support Services Building (HSSB)

The Department of Health Information Management at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a full-time, Clerk III.  This position will be responsible for medical record activities with primary duties to include performing qualitative analysis of patient medical records upon inpatient discharge, collecting data for monthly “Documentation Status Report”, scanning/uploading internal and external documents into Epic, QA documents, performing daily statistics and scanning audits and processing MyChart requests. 

This position location is in Coralville, IA and eligible to participate in remote work.  Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the State of Iowa.  Training will be held ONSITE at the Health Care Support Services (HSSB) building at a length determined by the supervisor.  Remote eligibility will be evaluated upon a satisfactory job training and meeting required performance standards. Successful candidates must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location. Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any conviction history and will be subject to a criminal background check.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Annual Salary:  $38,314.80 to $57,023.28

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Perform qualitative analysis of medical records for patients discharged from University of Iowa Health Care.
  • Collect data for monthly “Documentation Status Report”.
  • Review, organize, and prepare internal and external patient documentation to be scanned into Epic.  Scan and download patient documents.
  • Perform daily audit on all scanned documents from both HIM and clinical departments. 
  • Process MyChart applications
  • Answer multi-line telephone.
  • Perform Medical Records Tracking system functions.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient information including computerized data.
  • Exhibit behavior expected of a Health Information Management (HIM) staff member.
  • Perform other projects and tasks as assigned.

As part of performing the key areas of responsibility and competencies described above, staff members are expected to meet reasonable standards of work quality and quantity, as well as expectations for attendance established by their supervisor.  Staff members are also expected to comply with policies governing employee responsibilities and conduct, including those contained in the University Operations Manual.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment.

Desired Qualifications

  • One year experience with medical records/health information
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively in person, by phone or electronically
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Experience with PC Spreadsheet and Word processing software
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record (EMR) applications
  • Knowledge of UI Health Care policies and procedures
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams and Zoom for virtual meetings
