Clerk III - Burn Center Outpatient Clinic Part Time

The Burn Clinic at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a Clerk III to perform scheduling and reception functions and telephone coverage in the clinic including: scheduling patient appointments, providing reception coverage, obtaining and/or completing documentation and obtaining and providing information requiring a knowledge of both the assigned and related work areas.  Duties involve the use of personal computers, computer terminals, a variety of software and conventional office equipment.  

•    Schedule patient appointments and tests and coordinate appointments with other University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) departments utilizing the EPIC systems to check and verify appointment availability, assuring compliance at all times with established guidelines. 
•    Answer incoming clinic calls, field and answer questions, schedule appointments, route calls and relay messages appropriately.  Work with numerous distractions and interruptions.    
•    Perform reception coverage; assist with patient appointment check in process through the Epic systems; greet patients upon arrival to the clinic; answer questions in a manner that applies service leadership principals; update patient address, phone, insurance, MSP data and caregiver information; assure that all patients complete and/or sign all appropriate documentation; facilitate patient flow within the clinic and hospital through utilization of the Epic Department Appointments Report; direct patients to appropriate waiting areas; assist patients with directions to other UIHC clinics; provide patients with parking validation.
•    Collect patient insurance co-payments at time of check in; accordance with established UIHC policies; close daily batch and print appropriate paperwork for business office; complete variance reports.  
•    Respond to inquiries from staff, faculty, students, patients and visitors, providing information regarding policies and procedures that reflects knowledge of both assigned and related work areas and in a manner consistent with Service Leadership principles.

The Burn Treatment Center is one of 50 burn centers in the United States officially verified by the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons. The center includes a 17-bed critical and intermediate care inpatient unit plus related emergency, outpatient care, telemedicine capabilities, and rehabilitation facilities.

Percent of Time: 50%; 20 hours per week

Schedule: Tuesday 8:00am-3:30pm, Wednesday 9:00am-3:30pm, Thursday 8:00am-3:30pm. No Holidays, No Weekends

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment

•    High volume public/patient contact.
•    Medical terminology.
•    Medical Patient Scheduling
•    Demonstrated excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
•    Demonstrated Attention to Detail.
•    Excellent Organizational Skills
