The Department of Health Information Management at the University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a full-time, Clerk III at the Medical Center Downtown, Iowa City, Iowa.  This position will be responsible for medical record activities with primary duties to include retrieval of documents, scanning and/or importing of clinical documents into the electronic medical record (EMR), analysis of medical record documentation completion, assist with resolution of data integrity problems with the EMR and assist with birth certificate processing.  This position supports the Medical Center Downtown facility, patients, and families related to all medical record activities. This position location is Iowa City, IA and requires on-site presence. Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any conviction history and will be subject to a criminal background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Retrieval of medical record documentation from various locations within the facility.
2. Review, organize, and prepare internal and external patient documentation to be scanned or uploaded into electronic medical record (EMR).
3. Communicate appropriately with clinical departments regarding medical records received and uploaded.
4. Scan or upload medical record documentation into EMR.
5. Perform quality review of scanned documents.
6. Perform qualitative analysis of medical records to ensure documentation completion.
7. Assist with resolution of data integrity problems with the EMR.
8. Assist new mothers with completion of birth certificate information. Collects fees for birth certificate registration and submits information to Iowa Department of Public Health.
9. Greet patients (new mothers) and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
10. Maintains the confidentiality of patient information including computerized data.
11. Exhibits behavior expected of a HIM staff member.
12. Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.

 

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment.

Special Qualifications

  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Public contact/customer service experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with medical records and health information
  • Electronic medical record experience
  • Knowledge and experience with analysis of medical record documentation
  • Working knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
  • Working experience with high volume public contact
  • Ability to type/utilize keyboard proficiency
  • Excellent composition and communications skills
  • Ability to provide customer service professionally and respectfully
  • Ability to operate common office equipment to include copy machine, computer, facsimile machine, desktop scanner, and printer
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge and experience with Zoom
  • Working knowledge of Epic
  • Knowledge and experience with Epic Clinical Documentation System
  • Knowledge and experience with Epic Chart Deficiency Tracking System
  • Knowledge of UI Health Care hospital policies and guidelines
  • RHIA or RHIT credential
     

Pay Grade:  08 Merit Alpha Matrix | University Human Resources - The University of Iowa

Percent of Time:  100%
Schedule: Monday-Friday or Sunday-Thursday between the hours of 7:30am-4:00pm, must work 8 hours a day/shift.
Location: On-site at Medical Center Downtown, Iowa City, Iowa
Annual Salary:  $39859.92 to $59340.96
