The University of Iowa Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a 50% Data Management Research Assistant. The research assistant will serve as a member of the Reproductive Health Sciences Research Division to support new and ongoing research projects to improve women’s health. Duties will include developing and maintaining IRB’s, managing patient data, and assisting with patient’s testing, consultation and clinical trials. This position will require a person that can perform detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy. Functional supervision of staff and students may be exercised. Position involves a high degree of communication with patients, staff, providers, and researchers.

 

This position starts at 50%, but will increase to 100% within 6 months. It is a specified term role for two-years.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Enroll patients in research studies and clinical trials.

  • Communicates regular updates to collaborators.

  • Develop research updates in lay language summaries.

  • Accurately enters data and maintains enrollment and clinical information.

  • Works as a team with research division members to complete timely data entry and data validity.

  • Participates in activities that ensure reliability/accuracy checks.

  • Maintains a computerized log of participants in EPIC for specific studies.

  • Manage and develop IRBs utilized in Obstetrics & Gynecology research.

  • Assist in coordination of participant study appointments.

  • Performs projects and tasks assigned.

  • Maintains a high level of accuracy through strong attention to detail in all tasks and deliverables.

  • Engages in professional communication with patients, staff, faculty, and researchers.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Requires practical or academic knowledge and an ability to translate, adapt and apply this knowledge that is generally associated with a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to compose communications and grammatically correct documents in a concise, logical, and organized manner.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in positions requiring communication with the non-science community.

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating logistics.

  • Demonstrated ability managing data and projects.

  • Ability to manage complex information requiring attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with Mac and PC operating systems, with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, and Adobe Photoshop.

     

     

    Desired Qualifications

     

     

  • Experience in research.

  • Extensive knowledge of pregnancy-related terminology.

  • Experience maintaining databases with confidential information.

  • Strong leadership experience.

  • Experience working with electronic medical records (Epic preferred).
