Required Qualification:

  • Diploma or degree in Health Information Management program or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work experience (typically 6mo-1yr) with ICD-10,HCPCS, and CPT coding.
  • Basic knowledge of HIPAA and CMS laws/regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors at a working level proficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to utilize tools, techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with standard office computer software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Eligibility for certification as RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CCS, CCSP or equivalent through a nationally recognized credentialing body such as AHIMA or AAPC; must receive full certification within 18 months of hire.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with medical coding.
  • Experience with EPIC medical billing systems.
